National CD rates for Sept. 27, 2012

  • 0.98% (5-year CD yields)

Rates on long-term certificates of deposit inched down again in this week's rate survey.

The average five-year CD yield is down 1 basis point to 0.98 percent, a record low. The average one-year CD yield is unchanged at 0.3 percent. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point.

Yields are just as dismal on the jumbo side. The average one-year jumbo CD yield is 0.32 percent for the second straight week. The average five-year yield is 1 percent, also for the second consecutive week.

The average money market account yield is 0.12 percent for the 12th straight week.
