National CD rates for Sept. 13, 2012

Longer-term rates on certificates of deposit dropped this week, and the average one-year yield bounced back from last week's record low.

This week, the average one-year CD yield is up 1 basis point to 0.31 percent. The average five-year yield fell 1 basis point to 1.01 percent, a record low.

A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point.

For a deposit of $100,000, the average one-year jumbo CD yield is unchanged at 0.33 percent. The average five-year jumbo CD yield is down 1 basis point to 1.02 percent.

The average money market account yield is 0.12 percent for the 10th consecutive week.
