National auto loan rates for April 5, 2012

  • 4.52% (60-month, new car)
  • 5.22% (36-month, used car)

The rapid descent in auto loan rates over the past couple of weeks has mostly ended, at least for this week.

The average rate for a 60-month new-car loan is unchanged at 4.52 percent. Also unchanged, the 48-month new-car loan rate is 4.41 percent.

Used-car buyers get a tiny bit of a break this week, with the average rate for a 36-month used-car loan down a basis point to 5.22 percent. A basis point is one-hundredth of 1 percentage point.
