New for '09: Mercedes-Benz SLK
Mercedes-Benz SLK
The small Mercedes-Benz roadster, faced with increased competition from the likes of the Audi TT, gets a major facelift for 2009, as well as an increase in power. The 3.5-liter V-6 in the SLK 350 increases to 305 horsepower, yet the fuel economy is improved with both the six-speed manual and seven-speed automatic gearboxes. The supercharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine in the SLK 200 Kompressor is up to 184 horsepower, but the 5.5-liter V-8 in the SLK 55 AMG remains unchanged. Visual changes include a new front bumper with modified airdam and a more pronounced arrow shape to emphasize the relationship with the SLR McLaren. Inside, all models receive a new instrument cluster and a revised three-spoke steering wheel with multifunction buttons.
