New for '09: Jaguar XF Sedan
Jaguar XF Sedan | |
| | | | | The significance of the XF sedan, which replaces the aging S-Type in the Jaguar lineup, is that it is the last Jaguar produced entirely under the oversight of Ford. Now that the venerable British marque is owned by India's Tata automobile company, who knows what the future will bring? So far the XF has drawn both critics and fans. The biggest criticism has been for the styling, which has an unattractive nose and unremarkable curves elsewhere. Inside, the interior is the most modern ever to appear in a Jaguar, though its most remarkable feature -- the little power doors that open and close over the air conditioning vents when the car is started or turned off -- seems awfully gimmicky. The XF is available in three trim or performance levels, ranging from the base model at more than $49,000 to the supercharged version at nearly $64,000. Economy is not a strong point with a Jaguar, so the base XF, with its 300 horsepower 4.2-liter V-8, is rated at 16 mpg city, 25 mpg highway. The 420 horsepower supercharged version of the 4.2-liter V-8 returns 15 mpg city, 23 mpg highway. | | |
