Here's a look at the state of home equity rates from Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large banks and thrifts conducted Dec. 30, 2009.

Home Equity

Rate: 5.55 percent (line of credit); 7.79 percent (loan)

Rates on home equity products moved slightly higher this week.

The average home equity line of credit, or HELOC, edged upward 1 basis point, to 5.55 percent. Home equity loan rates also increased 1 basis point, to 7.79 percent.
