Credit card rates were unchanged this week, according to Bankrate's latest survey of interest rates.
The average annual percentage rate, or APR, for fixed-rate credit cards held at 13.02 percent, where it's been since early 2013. Meanwhile, the APR for variable-rate credit cards remained at 15.57 percent for the third straight week.
This week, startup Square announced it will offer an EMV (Europay, MasterCard and Visa) credit card reader to merchants. The new device will be available for preorder later this year. More merchants are expected to upgrade their payments systems ahead of a forthcoming shift in network liability rules that puts the onus for debit card or credit card fraud on whichever party (merchant or issuer) has prevented the safer EMV chip transaction.
