Rates: 13.46 percent (standard fixed); 11.08 percent (standard variable)

Average interest rates on standard credit cards didn't move this week. The mean annual percentage rate for standard-fixed cards stayed at 13.46 percent, and for variable-rate cards, it kept to 11.08 percent.

Overall, variable rates rose 10 basis points from last week to 11.14 percent. Fixed rates sank 9 basis points to 12.17 percent.

Bank card issuers faced unprecedented losses in May. Charge offs, or uncollectible card loans, hit 10 percent, according to a Wall Street Journal article. Delinquent account balances claimed a record 6.6 percent of outstanding bank card debt, the American Bankers Association reported, an increase of 108 basis points from the fourth quarter of 2008. Delinquencies climbed from 4.52 percent to 4.75 percent of all accounts.
