Credit card rates week of Jan. 29, 2009

Here's a look at the state of interest rates on five common consumer banking products and the latest rates from Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large banks and thrifts conducted Jan. 28, 2009.

Credit Cards

Rates: 13.29 percent (standard fixed); 10.87 percent (standard variable)

For the first time in more than a year the average fixed rate for purchases on standard cards fell 13 basis points from 13.42 percent to 13.29 percent. Variable rates on standard cards crept down 11 basis points to 10.87 percent.

Across all cards, fixed rates increased 3 basis points to 12.09 percent while variable rates tumbled 16 basis points to 10.63 percent. In October, fixed rates rose to 12 percent and have since inched up twice.
