Sovereign Bank offers two types of credit cards: a World Points Rewards card issued via Visa or Mastercard and a student credit card from Mastercard. Neither card carries an annual fee.

Recent happenings at Sovereign Bank

The past decade has been a busy period of growth for Sovereign Bank. After acquiring nearly 300 branch locations from now-defunct FleetBoston Financial in 2000, Sovereign Bank continued to acquire other regional banks in the Northeast. As the banking industry was shaken-up in the aftermath of the housing crisis, Sovereign Bank officially became a part of Spanish-owned Santander Group in 2009.
