Founded on January 30, 1920, in Hiroshima, Japan, Mazda was originally known as "Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. Ltd." The company came out with the "Mazda-go" in 1931 and the "Mazda R360" in 1960. They officially adopted the "Mazda" name in 1984. Their exports to the U.S. began in 1970. The company quickly expanded to other countries such as West Germany and locations throughout Europe.

Mazda has its corporate headquarters in Hiroshima, Japan, and is a top manufacturer and retailer of commercial vehicles and passenger cars.
