Free maintenance from domestic carmakers

Tara Baukus MelloQuestionDear Driving for Dollars,
I read your article on free scheduled maintenance programs for some foreign brands of luxury cars, but I really prefer to buy an American brand of car. Do any of the domestic luxury carmakers offer these programs?
-- Ron

AnswerDear Ron,
Lincoln and Cadillac have introduced free scheduled maintenance programs since that article was published. Cadillac's program provides coverage for four years or 50,000 miles while Lincoln's program covers three years or 45,000 miles.

For readers who haven't heard, Volvo, Jaguar and BMW are offering free maintenance for specified periods.

There is an important caveat. As I mentioned with the foreign luxury brands, even with the free maintenance programs from these domestic luxury carmakers, customers are still paying the higher price tag that comes with owning a luxury car. As a result, shoppers should consider the real savings of these programs carefully before letting the enticement of free maintenance seal the deal.
