This perennial favorite has been redesigned for 2013, and the Accord is now in its ninth generation. The base model comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 160-watt radio and CD audio system with four speakers, USB, an MP3/auxiliary input jack and Bluetooth technology.
The Accord's fuel economy is a respectable 36 highway miles per gallon. Families planning an especially long road trip should take note: According to Consumer Reports, drivers can go 510 miles between fuel fill-ups.
The two-door and four-door models earned 2013 IIHS Top Safety Pick honors.
Standard safety features include an anti-lock brake system, Vehicle Stability Assist with traction control, and front and side curtain air bags.
Accord EX models and higher also boast the Honda LaneWatch system, which helps drivers when they signal for right turns. A small camera on the passenger-side mirror is activated when the signal comes on and a video displays activity.
