January seems to be a good month for digging
up wealth: Gold was discovered Jan. 24, 1848, in California and the
first great oil discovery was made Jan. 10, 1901, in Texas.
Make
an insurance inventory. A picture's worth a thousand words. Take your
video camera (or borrow one from a friend or relative), and walk through
the rooms of your home. Pause and zoom in so that you demonstrate the detail
and value of your belongings. Narrate as you go. Then make copies and stash
them in several places -- closet, safe-deposit box, desk at work, relative's
attic -- so that you have a record.
