If you opt for a financial registry, also register for physical
gifts for people who want to give you a tangible object.
| | Home
improvement -- The joining of households may lend itself to room upgrades,
additions and other DIY construction projects, making hardware gifts more useful
than new sheets or china. For tools and gadgets, consider registering at a home
improvement store such as The
Home Depot. | | | Home
office -- Another popular category for couples is furnishings for the home
office. Gifts can include office supplies such as shredders, ergonomic leather
chairs and the latest computer equipment. Possible places to register for office
necessities include office-supply stores and general retailers such as Amazon.com,
Wal-Mart or
Target. |
| | Honeymoon
registries -- These registries work much the same way other financial registries
do, by collecting money for the couple in a separate account. Others will let
guests purchase gift certificates that help pay for various honeymoon expenses.
Either way, the couple can then put the money toward excursions, massages, dinner
cruises and other celebratory costs. You can set up a honeymoon registry on a
site such as Weddingchannel.com. |
| | Linens
-- Linens are very big right now, Naylor says, noting that some people
just register for new bed linens. | If you're
loading up on linens, make sure you buy for all seasons, especially bedding, she
says. When you register in the spring, for example, you are only seeing the spring
sheets, so be sure to register for flannel sheets and warmer comforters for winter. Find
linens at virtually any general registry, such as Macy's,
Crate
& Barrel, Pottery
Barn or Bloomingdale's.
| | Movies,
music and books -- At traditional retailers, couples are registering for
nontraditional items, such as movie or music collections. "They are registering
for boxed sets of the 'Godfather' series," says Naylor. They're also selecting
books, including coffee-table books and cookbooks. | Spruce
up your entertainment collection with a registry at any traditional store or with
an anything-goes site such as Felicite.com, which lets couple register for any
item from any store.
| | Museums
-- What could you possibly register for at a museum? It's very new and
not a trend yet, but at some museums, couples can register for artwork, books
and home decor. Check with your favorite museum to see if you can register there. |
| | Sporting
goods -- Modern grooms are catching the registry fever but might not care
about the traditional decor as much as they do about active gear that the couple
can share. Naylor says they are going for sporting goods supplies, such as mountain
bikes, golf clubs and tennis rackets. | |
