Fame & Fortune: Comedian Adam Carolla
Page | 1 | 2 | 3 |

Bankrate: With all your success, do you live an indulgent lifestyle?

Adam Carolla: Yes, I do. Where do I start? I spend tons of money all the time on things I never thought I needed. I love cars, and I love houses. I buy houses, I fix them up, I rent them out, sometimes I live in them. Cars and houses -- those two things.

Bankrate: How many houses do you own?

Adam Carolla: I own two houses, a condo and a warehouse. I just sold one house, so I'm down to two, and some land up north. You know you've arrived when you own land and you've never been there.

Bankrate: Considering your passion for houses and cars, is this your main way to invest and prepare for your future, with lots of houses and land and cars?

Adam Carolla: I don't think the cars are exactly a money maker. They could prove to have some value or hold their value or something down the road. The houses, yeah. Inadvertently. I make money off them because I'm a journeyman carpenter. I buy these houses that are junky and I take the same crew that's on the TV show and I use them on the houses, and then they end up being worth more money five years from now, and I end up making money. But it's what I would have done anyway. So, I'd say the houses are probably a decent way to secure the future.

Bankrate: There are so many people in show business who were never financially astute, and they have to learn about stocks and finance all of a sudden. It must be nice to have something you already enjoy that serves as an investment, instead of getting into that other stuff.

Adam Carolla: It is. I don't have to worry about Billy Joel's brother-in-law ripping me off because my money's all in houses. If I can't crap in it or drive it, I don't buy it.

Bankrate: How many cars do you own?

Adam Carolla: Ten. Ten or 11. I'm not Jay Leno, but I've been poor my whole life, and now I'm not poor, so I'm not going to act like I'm poor. I acted like I was poor from zero to 30, and now I'm done.

Bankrate: What's the most extravagant car you've got?

Adam Carolla: I got a Ferrari 360 Stradali, which is probably the most expensive one.

Bankrate: Do you actually drive it?

Adam Carolla: I do. Not into Compton to buy a dime bag, but I do drive it, yeah.
