Switcheroo: Dealer demands refund

Dear Terry,
I was trying to sell my car for a couple months. Finally, a used car dealership down the road decided to buy it. One of the guys who runs the place came by, took a look at the car, drove it around and finally agreed to a price of $1,200.

He paid me and took the car. A couple hours later he calls, complaining he can't resell the car due to rust underneath the car.

Does he have a right to his money back?
-- Jeff

Dear Jeff,
Unless you gave him some sort of written or verbal warranty on the condition of the car, the dealer is stuck -- the same way you'd likely be stuck if the situation were reversed.

Here are this week's reader questions:
Good time to buy a car? Yes and no
How can I get car back from my ex?
Do I have to give dealer a refund?
How much do I owe after car's auctioned?
