He talked to me a lot and I tried to be a good listener.
I was there for the tip money, so I was very friendly. I thought
he was just a very lonely old man.
About the third time he came in, he waited for me
to get off my shift at 11:30 p.m. He asked me to come and sit in
a booth with him and visit. He looked me straight in the eyes, and
said. "I love you and I want to marry you." He handed
me a little ring box, a $20.00 bill, and a piece of paper with his
preacher's name and phone number on it.
He said the $20.00 was to pay for the call to his
preacher so I could ask just how sincere this truck driver was or
if he was some kind of a nut. The ring box had a beautiful set of
diamond wedding rings.
To make this short -- but not as short as our engagement
-- I accepted his request but told him I was not in love with him.
"If I ever am, I will let you know." He said. "That's
alright. I'll love you enough for both of us."
My husband passed away Jan. 1, 2005. We had 10 beautiful
years. I will be thankful forever for that.
Oh yes, I couldn't say the day or the hour it happened,
but I definitely did fall in love with him. I guess I could say
he was my soul mate and I almost threw him away. I always will love
him deeply.
Thank you for the opportunity to share my story of
the most wonderful romance of my life.

Petal power
When I was in my late 20s, single and still riding the bus home
from work, I was walking toward my little studio apartment one day
when I noticed a long-stemmed red rose someone apparently had accidentally
dropped while walking home from the bus stop.
With glee, I picked up the beautiful rose so I could
take it home and enjoy its beauty and fragrance. After walking another
15 feet or so, I found another long-stemmed red rose on the edge
of the sidewalk.
Upon reaching the entrance to the lush garden surrounding
my apartment, I discovered still another red rose on the first of
a number of stepping stones leading to my front door, and then another
and another as I walked to my front door.
Just outside my door was a metallic gold box filled
with long-stemmed red roses, and a hand-written note.
This, I feel, was the most romantic gift I ever have
received from a man. Gentlemen, if you want to make a woman feel
special, try this.
