Bankrate: Did they (Ira Gershwin and Rosemary Clooney) give you advice about how to handle your money?
Michael Feinstein: Yes. Ira and his wife, Leonore, were always admonishing me to save money, to put money away. I never owed money on a credit card; I always paid my credit card bill every month. I never wanted to be in debt; whatever it was, I never spent more than I could afford. I was always very aware of the importance of not getting over my head. That was one of the first lessons I learned from them.
