January seems to be a good month for digging
up wealth: Gold was discovered Jan. 24, 1848, in California and the
first great oil discovery was made Jan. 10, 1901, in Texas.
Read your credit report. Call (877) 322-8228 or go online
and request one of your three credit bureau reports. You're entitled to
at least one of each free annually. Get a different one in May and another
in September to audit your file regularly at no cost. Residents of Illinois,
New Hampshire, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and Wisconsin can now freeze their
credit files regardless of identity theft. Residents of Hawaii and Kansas
may freeze their credit files if they have been victimized by identity thieves.
