Raleigh is perfect for active retirees, who can take advantage of the 56-mile Greenway system of biking and walking trails. The senior adult program has 3,500 older adults involved in sports leagues, clubs, education programs and outdoor trips. Part of the North Carolina triangle, Raleigh is situated about 25 miles from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Duke University. This partly explains why the area's population is one of the best educated in the country. Raleigh itself is the site of North Carolina State University.
