Timelines

Timelines
for buying or selling a house are quite subjective. Homes in some markets might
sell in less than a week; in other markets they may languish in the real estate
listings for the better part of a year. A local real estate agent might be your
best guide for setting a timeline that's appropriate in your neck of the woods.
If you're selling,
you should honestly evaluate how much work needs to be done to spiff up your
property before it's ready to be shown. Cutting corners could delay the sale
if buyers are turned off by the condition of the property.
If you're buying,
make sure your ducks are in a row when it comes to financing. Know how good
a credit risk you are. Don't be pre-qualified for a mortgage and think you have
a mortgage in hand.
Our timelines are a guide to many of the things that need to get
done, whether you're a buyer or a seller. We've added links to many Bankrate.com
articles that can give you a head start with understanding the ins and outs
of what will probably be the biggest financial deal you'll make.
