Financial horrors: Creepy customer service

The staff member told us that sometimes, when they get that huge pile of checks at the beginning of the month that they "don't feel like going through them" and go ahead and send out warning notices.

Good thing we didn't pack up and move anywhere.

Customer service provided by the devil's minions
I tried to sign up online with a company that offered DSL service in my area but after the first few steps I was informed that I

had to call the toll-free number. So I called and spoke with a representative who told me we couldn't get the DSL in our building. I told her to cancel the order and she said it was fine, it hadn't gone through. I neglected, of course, to write down her name, extension, Social Security number and exact transcript of the conversation.

Months later, after I had moved, I got a bill for service from these people. Apparently, they had turned on something that went to the outside of the building and weren't obligated to install anything inside, so I never knew it had happened. My ex-landlord had to call them and ask them to disconnect the service so the new tenants could be set up. Being completely clueless, I could find no way of getting out of the bill. The people I spoke with were possibly the most vile humans on the face of the earth. According to them I had no recourse. I had requested the service -- end of story. As I had no proof that I had not requested the service, and they, apparently, had proof that I had, it was just escalating levels of animosity from their customer service people. I swore I would rather eat glass than ever pay them and ranted and raved day and night, wrote letters and swore I would destroy my credit rather than pay this unjust bill. My boyfriend quietly sent them a check for $80 and life went on.
