Former Gov. Mike Huckabee is the only GOP presidential hopeful to support the FairTax, a national sales tax on new goods.
The FairTax would replace all other federal taxes, including personal income, capital gains, corporate, estate and gift tax. Under the former Baptist minister's tax plan, everyone would get a monthly rebate on taxes up to the poverty line, to provide tax relief on the purchase of necessities. Huckabee also stands alone in his support for art and music education in schools. While some of the other Republican candidates advocate math and science, the former Arkansas governor supports offering art and music education in schools through high school. Another distinctive idea of his concerns "personalized learning," where students would help create a customized curriculum based on their interests. They would still have to take core classes, but could earn credits, for example, by taking karate classes or playing in a band.
