Fame & Fortune interview: Kathy
Griffin
Money-motivated comic: 'My best financial
move is not spending' |

Bankrate: Have you ever
said anything in your routine or on a show that you later thought
went too far?
Kathy Griffin: Oh, constantly.
I go through phases. Like, I'll make fun of Angelina Jolie, and
then I'll see the work she's doing as a U.N. ambassador and think,
"Wow, she's really cool." I change my mind about people
all the time. I constantly say things that are over the line, and
the audience lets me know. They'll groan, or I'll have people walk
out. All that stuff.
Bankrate: As we've seen
on the show, you live in a mansion and have a $25,000 sofa. This
is a much nicer life than one might expect from a D-lister. Is being
on the D-list more profitable than one would think?
Kathy Griffin: It is for
me, because I'm obsessed with money and making money. I'm a crazy
workaholic, and I love to work and never stop working. But I think
I would make a good living no matter what I did, because I'm extremely
driven by money and all that that entails, and having a big, fancy
house is really important to me. So I think that you can make a
good buck if you are ... I don't want to say a capitalist, but,
I just work all the time. And, by the way, I'm calling you from
Stuart, Fla.
Bankrate: What are you
doing in Stuart, Fla.?
Kathy Griffin: I am constantly
on tour. If you look at my Web site, I'm doing an insane amount
of stand-up. I'm never off tour, just gigging all the time, then
next week I'm going to do an Alka Seltzer commercial, which is a
D-lister's dream come true. What's the next thing? That's my motto.
