How is it that a simple contribution to her backyard compost bucket makes this actress and staunch environmentalist smile from ear to ear? "I get really excited about the fact that I can eat an artichoke, place all the leaves into my little bucket, put it into the ground and then it turns into rich soil which then grows my food,", says the vegan actress. "I know that might sound weird, but the cycle of life really amazes me." And Alicia thinks she's helping save the planet by using certain household cleaners that are totally biodegradable. "I really believe that environmentally and socially and our health is all connected so I don't want to put chemicals into the earth. I don't clean with anything that is not natural because I don't want to put it into our water system." Silverstone prefers Seventh Generation, Bon Ami, Citrasol and "even the Whole Foods brands are really good. Bottom line, anything biodegradable that works is great. Of course, the actress drives around town in a Prius hybrid. "I won't splurge on gas, which is so expensive and so bad for our environment. It's one of our biggest contributors to global warming."
