Fees for using nonbank ATMs decline

Fee to use another institution's ATM
There is good news on the ATM front. The fee charged when an account holder uses another bank's automated teller machine declined for the second time in a row and is now the lowest in more than four years. The average fee dipped from $1.29 to $1.25, with the number of banks increasing the fee slightly outnumbering those that reduced the fee, 22-to-19. But six banks actually reduced or eliminated the fee for a specific account instead of a bankwide policy. In all but one case, the account in question carries a monthly service fee of at least $10, so a few lower-cost or free ATM withdrawals is hardly a bargain.
