Vinegar -- not just for the kitchen
I buy gallon jugs of store brand vinegar for under $2 a gallon. Vinegar is not only useful in the kitchen for marinating cucumbers, spritzing on french fries, or marinating meat (just add a little soy sauce and garlic for an easy teryaki marinade), it is also the best thing that I have found to eliminate household odors. Use directly in the laundry to eliminate musty odors, it even works on urine odors. Fido have an accident? Douse the area with vinegar, place an absorbent cloth over the spot and step on it, press your weight into it to absorb vinegar and old urine and let dry. The vinegar odor is gone when dry, and it deters pets from resoiling the area.
