Hybrids don't supercharge electric bill

Dear Terry,
I've been reading a lot about electric hybrid cars recently. They seem to be a lasting trend. But I can't help wondering what is their true cost? I live in the steamy, hot South, where the two seasons are "hot" and "hotter." How is this going to affect my already high electric bill? Charging an electric car every day seems that it would make my electric bill really jump. What is your take on this?

Dear Lisa,
You have a huge misunderstanding about gas-electric hybrid vehicles.

They don't plug into an electrical socket. Instead, the batteries are recharged by the gasoline engine and application of the brakes. While there are talks about bringing plug-in, gas-electric hybrids to market, no major manufacturer has yet done so. So, your electric bill is safe.
