These launched a generation. A couple of million
were built and a couple hundred thousand still exist.
Some of the more rare Mustang models have skyrocketed
in value and are well beyond the reach of entry-level collectors,
specifically the 1965 to 1966 convertibles equipped with the
GT package and the 271-horsepower V8 along with the 1968 to
1970 models with the 428-cubic-inch Cobra Jet engine and the
Boss 302 and Boss 429 Mustangs.
But under $30,000 you can find most other Mustangs,
especially hardtops. For fans of convertibles, good bargains
can be found with six-cylinder Mustangs in the 1965 to 1966
model years. Those wanting V8 convertibles should look to
1967 to 1970 models. In fact, our best-buy recommendation
is a 1967 V8 convertible. Nearly pristine models can be bought
for $15,000 or less.
