As with the Mustang, these cars were built in
huge numbers, and collectors have already pushed up the prices
of the extreme high-performance models: Camaros equipped with
the 396-cubic-inch V8s, as well as the race-bred 1967-69 Z-28
models, Firebird 400s, and the ultra rare 1969 Trans Am.
Good starter cars are available if you stick
to coupes and small-block V8s. One high-performance gem that
has yet to shoot into the stratosphere is the 1970 to 72 Camaro
Z-28. Great examples can still be had for less than $25,000.
Also check out Firebirds with the overhead camshaft
six-cylinder engines, as well the 1970 to '72 Formula models,
which often came with the same V8 power as the more romantic
-- and more expensive -- Pontiac Trans-Am of the same years.
