Madonna -- spendthrift or stylish?

Madonna has made an addition to her British collection. There's
her British husband, filmmaker Guy Ritchie, their London home and now, a Mini
Cooper. Not used to hearing about Madonna without a scandal? OK, here's the
scandalous part: This car is priced so low, it's affordable to the general population.
The Cooper, produced by BMW subsidiary Mini, was recently
released in the United States and starred in last summer's "Austin Powers
3, Goldmember." It has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $19,300
and a destination charge of $550. The small, cute car is described by car site
Edmunds.com as an affordable, luxurious go-cart for adults. It looks, well,
British.
The Cooper seems more likeable than luxurious. The upholstery
is vinyl, and other than the rear spoiler and the leather trim on the steering
wheel and doors, there are no standard luxuries of note.
But the options are many. Madonna chose an electric blue Cooper
equipped with a satellite navigation system. The metallic paint costs $400 and
the navigation system costs $1,600. The premium options package costs $1,200
and includes a leather multifunction steering wheel with cruise and audio controls,
dual-pane panoramic power sunroof, automatic air-conditioning with microfilter
and air recirculation and an on-board computer. For $300, park-distance control
will alert the driver when backing toward an object. Heated front seats can
be added for $270.
