Lexus' first hybrid was also the industry's
first luxury hybrid SUV, the RX 400h. Since its launch, more
than 50,000 of the RX 400h vehicles have been sold.
The five-passenger SUV gets 27 miles per gallon in city traffic and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. It uses a powertrain composed of a 3.3-liter V6 engine and a 288-volt electric motor.
The RX 400h uses a full-hybrid drive, meaning it can operate in an all-electric mode, all-gasoline mode or a combination of the two. Equipped with the tow package, it can haul 3,500 pounds.
At just over $41,000, it is the least expensive and the most fuel-efficient of the three Lexus hybrids.
