Using an amalgam of ratings provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the independent Web site, informedforlife.org, these are the safest vehicles in your chosen style.
 Lexus ES350 Standard airbags: Front, side and head
The Lexus ES350   The Lexus ES350 gets the top five-star ratings in the federal government crash test ratings for front driver, passenger and front side impacts. It gets four stars for rear side impact and rollover protection. Traction control, stability control and antilock brakes are also standard. It's also the highest rated sedan by Informedforlife.org. MSRP: $33,470.
 Acura TL Standard airbags: Front, side and head
Acura TL   The Acura TL gets the top five-star ratings in the federal government crash test ratings for front driver and passenger impacts. It gets four stars for front side impacts and five stars for rear side impacts. It gets four stars for rollover protection. It was rated good, the highest mark, by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Traction control, stability control and antilock brakes are also standard. It is rated just below the Lexus ES350 by Informedforlife.org. MSRP: $33,625-$36,125.
 Audi A6 Standard airbags: Front, side and head
Audi A6   The Audi A6 sedan gets the top rating of good from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and is rated in the top 3 percent of all vehicles by Informedforlife.org. Although it hasn't been tested by the federal government, it's expected that it would get top grades in the front and side impact tests. Traction control, stability control and antilock brakes are standard. All-wheel-drive is optional. MSRP: $42,950-$56,300.
