SUV | Price
The price you pay for a new vehicle will vary from dealership to dealership, but we'll be considering the manufacturer's suggested retail price before discounts, incentives and rebates.
 Nissan Xterra $20,050-$27,950
Nissan Xterra   Although its size suggests it may be a crossover SUV, the Xterra rides on a fully-boxed truck frame that makes it a classic SUV. It sports 9.5 inches of ground clearance and has a 4-liter V6 that makes 261 horsepower. Inside the cockpit, it's quite Spartan, which reflects the segment lowest price.
 Toyota FJ Cruiser $22,110-$23,710
Toyota FJ Cruiser   This is the first SUV to have a certain nostalgia aspect. Designed to look like the vintage Toyota FJ SUV that was sold from 1960 to 1983, it's just as rugged as its ancestors. It can be had in two-wheel or four-wheel drive versions, and those who opt for the four-wheel-driver version get a two-speed transfer case for those off-road excursions. The interior is made for easy clean-up for those get-it-dirty trips.
 Ford Explorer $25,755-$35,460
Ford Explorer   The vehicle that arguably kicked off the SUV craze still sells well over 150,000 units a year and has been steadily improved every year. If you're lucky enough to find a bare-bones Explorer on a dealer lot, it can be a bargain in this category. Unfortunately, most Explorers come loaded with options that push them into luxury SUV territory.
