In late December 2004 in the Netherlands, Spyker displayed its latest prototype, the C12, and told admirers that maybe they could buy one. In short, if the manufacturer receives enough orders, it's ready to spring into production by the second half of 2006.

The speedster brags top speeds of 325 km (201 miles) per hour, thanks to a torque rating that could wrestle Arnold Schwarzenegger to the ground. But it's the interior that spokeswoman Sylvia Hugenholtz says "tempts even the most jaded car enthusiasts."

Oh, sure, it has a glass hard top, and customers can choose any interior and exterior colors they wish. Yes, the dashboard options include leather and swirled aluminum. But it's the Chronoswiss dashboard -- designed by none other than master watchmaker Gerd-Rudiger Lang, CEO and founder of Chronoswiss -- that impresses. We're talking fluted bezel embedded into the aluminum, matte-black display backgrounds with glowing numerals and dials. They even throw in a stopwatch on this dashboard.

And you just have to feel the aluminum steering wheel covered in Hulshof leather riveted onto the rim. Every owner gets a unique chassis number and Web page detailing the life and times of his car.

Price: Starts at $290,000 euros ($217,500 U.S.), excluding taxes and ex-factory of course. But it does include the glass hard top.
