Whew! This baby is capable of speeds faster than a
jet plane needs to lift off a runway. It's the ultimate thrill ride,
brought to you by folks trying to duplicate the 24 Hours of Le Mans
the entire time they're hunched over their drawing boards.
The publicity department is so giddy, it refers to
the Carrera GT as art appreciation. (Porsche snagged the Louvre
as its venue to introduce this car in its concept stage.)

But when you come back down to earth, peer closely
at the exterior -- that's a honeycomb of carbon-fiber reinforced
plastic, aluminum, magnesium and high-strength steel. And while
the interior boasts amenities such as wood trim and a ball-shaped
shift knob "just like the one in the 1970 Le Mans-winning Porsche
917 racer," the performance is strictly 21st century.
After all, this is a car that goes zero to 60 miles
per hour in less than four seconds, and tops off in excess of 200
mph.
