The long-standing Grand Am has been renamed the
G6 and gets a complete makeover. It rides on the same front-wheel-drive
chassis as the Saab 9-3 and the Chevrolet Malibu. There are three
engines available, ranging from a 200-horsepower V6 to a 240-horsepower
V6. A 170-horsepower four-cylinder engine is due to be added.
At the other end of the power scale is the GTO, which
debuted last year and has not sold very well, primarily due to bland
styling. For 2005, the GTO gets a new V8 from the Corvette that
produces 400 horsepower. Debuting late this summer is the two-seat
Solstice, a four-cylinder 2.4-liter Ecotec engine with 170 horsepower.
A 250-horsepower-plus turbo version will follow soon.
A restyled Montana debuts for 2005. It's essentially
the same as the minivans at Chevrolet, Buick and Saturn. Pontiac's
other minivan -- the Aztek -- hangs on for one more year.
