Mercury Montego

The Montego, the Mercury twin to the Ford 500
sedan, debuts.
It somewhat replaces the Grand Marquis, which
will stay around for a little while in the transition.
The big drawback to the Montego -- as with the
Ford 500 -- is that the only engine available is a V6, even though
many buyers in this class desire the torque and power of a V8.
Mercury also gets its version of the Escape, called the Mariner, but unlike the Ford compact SUV, the Mariner will pass up a hybrid version this year.
The Sable, like the Taurus, is in its last months.
