An all-new Grand Cherokee, the first complete
makeover since 1993, arrives. It's larger than its predecessor,
has a new suspension system that should improve its highway manners,
and gets a V6 -- instead of an inline six -- as the base engine.
A new 5.7-liter V8 that generates 325 horsepower is optional --
the first Hemi ever for a Jeep vehicle.
There are three different four-wheel-drive
systems available, and the permanent all-wheel-drive option marks
the first time a four-wheel-drive Grand Cherokee will be available
without a two-speed transfer case. That's likely to disappoint off-roaders,
but the standard four-wheel-drive setup is still available. Prices
run from $26,000 to more than $34,000.
A 2.8-liter diesel engine joins the option list of the Liberty,
as does a sporty Renegade model.
