After an absence of more than a decade, BMW brings back the 6 Series
luxury sport coupe. And this time the 645 CI is also available as
a slick four-seat convertible.
Power -- for now -- comes from a 4.4-liter, 325-horsepower V8,
with the promise of an optional V10 at a later date. There are three
transmission choices: A six-speed automatic, a six-speed manual,
or a six-speed clutchless sequential manual.
Long on luxury for four people, the 645CI is likely
to continue criticism of the BMW rear end styling theme that debuted
several years ago on the 7 Series. The iDrive control for most major
interior systems also continues to be problematic.
Nonetheless, the 6 Series is impressive, especially
the price -- starting at about $70,000 for the coupe and $77,000
for the convertible.
