| The A6 sport sedan, which
has never been as well received in the United States as the entry-level A4, gets
a makeover for 2005. It is slightly longer and wider than the previous model --
adding much needed shoulder and knee room -- and the styling is edgier, particularly
at the front end, with its prominent
grille. The standard V6 engine grows to 3.2 liters
and produces 255 horsepower. An optional 4.2-liter V8 delivers 335 horsepower.
For 2005, all A6 models will come with Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system,
coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission that has a manual shift option.
The V6 version stickers for more than $41,000 while
opting for the V8 adds about $10,000. A presumably less-expensive
front-wheel-drive A6 won't arrive until 2006, along with a station
wagon version and an ultra-high-performance S6 model.
