States with 'do-not-call' registries
By Laura

Many telemarketing sales pitches are annoying, and
sometimes intimidating. The federal government is in the process
of setting up a national
registry -- a single place where consumers nationwide will be
able to list their phone numbers. Once a consumer is on that list,
most telemarketers would be prohibited from calling.
The national system will begin registration in July.
In the meantime, some states have set up their own "do-not-call"
registries to help residents cut down on unwanted sales pitches.
If you live in one of these states and would like
to enroll, call the number listed or log on to the Web site to see
how to put your telephone number on the list.
