Inheritance sounds like a
scam
Dear Dr. Don,
I have already been approved for a $10 million
dollar inheritance, but I need to borrow money to complete the transaction.
It will take about a week to hit my account after I send in the money.
What can I do?
LeCore
Dear LeCore:
This sounds like a scam to me. While it's true that "it takes
money to make money," it doesn't typically take money to inherit
money. Talk to the attorney
general's office in your state to see what it says about your
inheritance.
This sounds like a variant of the "Nigerian Advance
Fee Fraud." This fraud is so pervasive that the U.S. Department
of State has a 33-page
booklet available to describe the fraud and its variations.
The inheritance variation is on page 23.
I hope I'm wrong and that you have a cool $10 million
waiting for you. But don't spend a dime chasing this inheritance.
Drop a dime instead and call your attorney general.
