Texas Sub-County Zone Strategic Investment Areas
for 2001
By Kay Bell Bankrate.com
In 2001, Texas will offer several tax breaks
for businesses: a job creation tax credit, an investment tax credit
and a research credit bonus. Eligibility for the tax benefits depends
on a business' type and in which kind of newly designated Strategic
Investment Area (SIA) it is located.
Five sub-county zones -- Dallas, Harris, Bexar,
McLennan and El Paso -- were given full-purpose SIA designation
by the Texas Comptroller because the areas were selected as federal
urban enterprise communities.
Firms that are engaged in manufacturing, warehousing,
wholesale distribution, computer services or research in these zones
can apply for the full slate of tax breaks: job creation and investment
credits, plus the research credit bonus.
One federal urban enterprise zone, the city
of El Paso, already is in a full SIA area, El Paso County. In the
other four counties, however, only qualifying companies that operate
within the urban community boundaries may apply for the full SIA
state tax options.
