Alissa Fleck is a freelance journalist and stand-up comedian based in New York City. She writes primarily about health care and women's issues for a number of publications. She is a regular blogger for the Huffington Post. Alissa is also editor in chief of The Flexist (TheFlexist.com), a website dedicated to publishing excellent talent in the areas of journalism, storytelling and art.
Alissa graduated with a BA in English from Grinnell College and received a master's degree in creative writing at The New School University. She's an avid photographer, chess enthusiast and soccer player. She hopes to someday study law.
Alissa grew up in Minneapolis. She has worked as a university teaching assistant in political journalism and literature courses. In college, she spent four years volunteer teaching in a maximum security women's prison. She hosted a one-year reading series at the Cornelia Street Cafe in New York's West Village.
